Workspace configuration
Every setting set once, at the layer it belongs to.
After Bentley's own defaults, each layer loads in order and builds on the ones above it. Locked settings can't be changed further down.
Levels, colors, text and dimension styles, line styles and the title blocks your firm uses on every project.
Key settings lockedThe CAD standard, borders and settings a client or authority sets for all of its projects.
Key settings lockedSeed files, grids and floors, project cell libraries, folders and print setup for one project.
Key settings lockedWhat each job function loads, such as the discipline libraries each modeling team works with.
Set by rolePersonal preferences such as toolbars and view settings, kept apart from the standards.
PersonalA standard your firm uses on every project is set for the firm. One that applies to a single project lives in that project's workset.
Standards your users must not change are locked, so no project, role or personal setting can override them.
Each file opens with the same standards loaded from ProjectWise, so levels, styles and prints match from one user to the next.
Access by role
Each person gets the access their work needs.

An example access plan. Yours is set with your BIM or CAD manager to match your team's roles.
Our setup method
12+ years of Bentley expertise, built into every setup.
Six steps, with your BIM or CAD manager and your production team brought in at the points that need them.
We model in OpenBuildings Designer and MicroStation every day, so the setup is built around how modelers and CAD technicians work.
We know how one project-wide setting reaches every user's files, and which settings to lock before anyone starts work.
Led by an industry expert who has kept CAD standards consistent across packages on major rail and transit programs.
Every setup is documented and walked through with your BIM or CAD manager, so your team can maintain and extend it.
Who it's for
You've won a project that runs on ProjectWise, and your workspace and worksets need to be ready before modeling starts.
Several firms and disciplines have to work to one standard in your project's ProjectWise, each with the right access.
You're joining a project that runs on your client's or main contractor's ProjectWise, and your own workspace and libraries need to match theirs.
Yes. We set everything up inside your own ProjectWise, so the setup is tested where your team works. Access is arranged with you at kickoff, with a named account and under your NDA. If the project runs on a client's or authority's ProjectWise, we request access at the start, because accounts there can take a few weeks.
Your IT team and reseller look after servers, databases and licenses. We configure how your team works inside ProjectWise: folders and document attributes, worksets, the workspace that loads your standards, and access by role. We model in OpenBuildings Designer and MicroStation ourselves, so we set it up around how modelers and CAD technicians work.
Yes. We start by reviewing what's in place: settings that conflict, standards that differ from one user to the next, and who can change project-wide settings. Then we lock the standards users shouldn't change and tidy the rest.
Yes. We set your team up to work to the authority's workspace and standards, and organize your own folders, worksets and roles within what the authority allows, so your files meet its requirements from the first submission.
Yes. Changes are tested with a few of your users first, then rolled out at a point you agree, such as a milestone or new files first. The previous settings are kept, so they can be restored if anything needs to go back.
Yes. One setup serves your OpenBuildings modelers and your MicroStation CAD technicians, so models, references and drawing sheets all load the same levels, styles, cells and print settings.
The finished setup in your ProjectWise, a written record of it (folder structure, access by role and where each standard lives), and a walkthrough for your BIM or CAD manager, who then owns it and makes future changes.
Every setup is scoped first, then quoted. Cost depends on how many users and roles are involved, how many disciplines share the setup, which standards already exist and whether we start fresh or work from a setup already in place.
