What we build
Set up to place, draw and schedule correctly the first time.
Structural
Missing steel sections and custom profiles added to your shape library with exact dimensions, section properties and weight per foot, so members place, cope and schedule correctly.
Shape libraryCustom concrete beam, column and precast profiles built as clean closed shapes, so they place, join and cut correctly in plans and sections.
Shape libraryArchitectural
Panels, mullions, transoms and glazing set up as complete types, built around what the curtain-wall tool handles well, so facades stay editable as the design changes.
Types & cellsRails, panels, start, end and intermediate posts and end conditions saved as railing types that match your details on stairs, ramps and slab edges.
Types & cellsWall types with the thickness, materials and data your project specifies, and door and window types that cut their own openings and stay tied to the wall.
CatalogsBenches, trash cans, casework and other project objects, built as light cells with their data attached, so they schedule correctly and don't slow your files.
Cell libraryContent with data
Family, part and data, set once in the library.
Each item's family and part control how it appears in display rules, drawings, schedules, reports and IFC exports, and model reviews check them along with attributes such as grade, material and weight. Built into the library item, they arrive with every placement, so no one has to add them by hand, object by object.
Library item: railing type
Shows in the color, line style and weight your display rules set for its part.
Draws with the right line work in plans, sections and elevations, with no manual overrides.
Lists with its family, part and data in schedules and quantity reports.
Exports with its classification and properties for model review.
Engagement options
A full project library, or one missing item.
At kickoff or a new design stage
A planned set of content built, tested and delivered together, lined up with your project standard before modeling starts.
During the project
A missing steel section, railing type or project object, added when your team needs it, to the same standard as the rest of your library.
Our content method
12+ years of Bentley expertise, built into every library item.
We review your project standard, BIM Execution Plan and content list, and check what your current dataset already holds, so nothing is built twice.
For each item we assign the family and part your standard uses, and set the data it carries and its level of detail, from your standard and the drawings, details or data sheets it comes from.
We build the shapes, cells and types as additions alongside your delivered and authority files, which stay unchanged.
We place and edit every item in a test model, then check it in each output it feeds.
We add the content to your project dataset, or hand it to your administrator to approve and load, then walk your BIM or CAD manager through the content log.
We model in OpenBuildings Designer every day, so each item is built the way modelers place, edit and draw it.
New content sits alongside your delivered and authority files and loads through your existing workspace, so it appears for every user and the files your project depends on stay as they are.
Led by an industry expert who has modeled structural and architectural work in OpenBuildings Designer on major rail and transit programs.
Cells and profiles carry only the geometry they need, so models stay quick to open and drawings stay quick to produce as the library grows.
Who it's for
Your structural and architectural teams model on a Bentley project and need sections, railings, curtain-wall types or objects the project dataset doesn't hold yet.
You coordinate several firms modeling to one project standard, and need the same steel sections and project objects in every firm's library so their models match.
You're building your own library for projects outside an authority dataset, or moving your team onto OpenBuildings Designer from another platform.
We add the content the authority's dataset leaves out, built to its standard: steel sections your drawings call for, curtain-wall and railing types, and project objects. Our additions sit alongside the authority's files, and go to your BIM or CAD administrator for approval wherever the project requires it.
We can work inside your ProjectWise and add the content to your project dataset directly. We can also build and test the content on our side and hand the files to your administrator to load. We agree the route with you at kickoff.
Yes. When a modeler hits a missing section, railing type or object mid-project, we build it to the same standard as the rest of your library, test it and add it to your dataset.
New and updated content is available to every user the next time they start OpenBuildings Designer. Objects already placed in a model may need to be updated to the new version, and we tell you which ones.
We build every item to the structure your current software uses and record it in the content log. After an upgrade, we can check each logged item again, so you know it still places, displays and reports correctly.
Partly. Object and casework cells load in MicroStation too, so your CAD technicians place the same objects, as plain cells without the OpenBuildings data. Steel shapes, catalog types, railings and curtain walls are OpenBuildings Designer content.
The new content in your project dataset, a test model showing every item placed, a content log listing each item with its family, part and source, and a walkthrough for your BIM or CAD manager.
Every package is scoped first, then quoted. Cost depends on how many items you need, how complex each one is, what your standard asks each item to carry and how the content is delivered to your team.
Bentley consulting
The workspace that shares your library, and the models built with it.
We turn your project's standards into one ProjectWise workspace that loads the same on every computer.
View service → ModelingWe turn your design team's drawings into accurate structural and architectural models in OpenBuildings Designer.
View service → SupportBook a call with a Bentley expert. We find the cause with you and work through the fix, or tell you what it will take.
View service →Live 1-on-1 and group OpenBuildings Designer Structural Modeling training, including adding steel profiles and structural shapes to the library.
